Metanorma CLI 1.11.4: Enhanced requirements management and ISO document support

A whimsical forest with trees organizing their requirements in careful classifications

We are pleased to announce the release of Metanorma CLI version 1.11.4, our first update of 2025. This release brings significant improvements to requirements management, enhanced ISO document support, and several format-specific refinements to ensure compliance with organizational standards.

Requirements management enhancements

Improved cross-reference resolution

A key improvement in this release is the refined handling of requirements cross-references:

  • Cross-references that are not to Modspec requirements within Modspec are now deferred for resolution

  • This preserves correct labeling of table cross-references in ISO documents

  • It ensures more accurate navigation within complex documents

  • It maintains the integrity of reference chains in documents with mixed content types

This enhancement is particularly valuable for standards that combine requirements specifications with technical content like tables, figures, and examples, ensuring that all cross-references are formatted appropriately according to their target type.

ISO document enhancements

Parallel publication support

For ISO standards, we’ve added important new capabilities:

  • The document attribute :iso-cen-parallel: has been introduced to support parallel publication with CEN

  • Voting dates internationalization has been implemented

  • Internationalization support for draft comments has been added

These enhancements support the complex publication processes for standards that are jointly published by ISO and CEN, ensuring proper metadata, formatting, and language handling across different regional contexts.

JIS document improvements

Enhanced participant handling

For Japanese Industrial Standards (JIS), we’ve improved the handling of participant information:

  • Multiple participant clauses with explicit titles are now supported

  • A key to participant tables has been added for better readability

  • These improvements enhance the presentation of committee and contributor information

  • They support more flexible document organization according to JIS requirements

These refinements make Metanorma more effective for JIS standards development, particularly for documents with complex organizational structures and multiple contributing groups.

Conclusion

Metanorma CLI 1.11.4 delivers targeted improvements to requirements management, ISO document support, and format-specific features. These enhancements support more effective standards development across different organizational contexts, with particular emphasis on ISO, JIS, and requirements-driven documents.
